As I transitioned from a science student to an art student, I created these Venn diagrams to express the joy I found in the combination of the two disciplines and my desire to work in the overlap of the two.
(1) The beautiful images from Hubble, evoking some of the deepest wonder, depend on both the creative application of color and the precise mathematical Fourier transforms, generating image from raw numbers. (Featured on several websites including BrainPickings, Vi.sualize and the ABC.)
(2) The genes of jellyfish that glow, carefully colored and expressed in different cells, reveal the complexities of neuronal networks with differentiation otherwise impossible to achieve.
(3) Combining technical microscope images of with sculptural, digital rendering techniques leads to dazzling animations of what exactly goes on in a cell, in this particular one the motor protein kinesin.
